The boat pickup at Agen was great; however for any novices the potential of a baptism of fire in your first few hours with the 4 locks at Agen cannot be understated. Later in the cruise I was very comfortable just floating on the river waiting for locks to be ready; plus the physical challenges of passing mooring ropes up and down in the locks. However, doing that repeatedly in the first few hours was challenging. Can I suggest that a more comfortable pickup point would be Buzet sure Baise., one small point they seem not to have smaller boats for 3/4 persons with a flying bridge. You definitely need a top driving position, internal only are very hard work..

Over all it was a good experience.Here are a few thoughts: For a first time canal boat trip, it's to long from Joigny to Corbigny in 6 days. one day we were cursing for 10 hours. They need better instructions for driving the boat: go slow when approaching the lock, slightly turn the wheel to steer, really concentrate, you need at least four people for your first time. The boat broke down about 1 mile from Corbigny and we lost all power so we could not control the boat! A Locaboat person came out and confirmed the engine was broken. We had to leave the boat there. If we go again we might hire a captain. I guess we don't need to talk over the phone. Let me know if you have any questions.
