The Canal de la Sarre follows the River Sarre in Alsace, previously, the canal was called "Canal des Houillères de La Sarre"

The waterway connects Canal de la Marne au Rhin to Sarre.

Navigation on the Sarre Canal starts at Gondrexange and ends at Sarreguemines.

Construction began in 1861 and ended in 1866.
