About Belgium

Independent for more than 175 years, this country has plenty to offer all those interested in ancient architecture which still has a considerable hold over cities such as Bruges, known as the Venice of the north, and Ghent, once viewed as a Medieval rival to Paris. Brussels and Antwerp are dynamic, vibrant cities popular among the young.
Belgium is a country with a rich and varied culinary heritage, some of the famous ones are:
Waffles are crispy, fluffy and sweet pastries that can be topped with whipped cream, chocolate, fruit or jam.
There are two types of waffles: Brussels waffles, which are rectangular and light, and Liège waffles, which are round and thick.
Chocolate: Belgium is known for its high-quality chocolate such as pralines and truffles.
The Belgians have a long and proud tradition of brewing beer, dating back to the Middle Ages. There are over 1,000 different types of Belgian beer, from pale ales and lagers to dark ales and stouts.
Some of the best-known beers are Duvel, Chimay, Leffe, Stella Artois and Hoegaarden.
Carbonnade flamande is a hearty stew made from beef, onions and beer. The meat is marinated and slow-cooked until tender, and the sauce is thickened with bread, mustard and brown sugar.
And also the very famous "moules frites", a classic Belgian dish consisting of steamed mussels and deep-fried crisps. The mussels are cooked in a broth flavoured with garlic, onions, celery, parsley and white wine.
Nobody hurries in Belgium: Take your time to relax and enjoy all that the countryside and historic towns have to offer.
