A fascinating tour of Carcassonne in the morning. This magnificent Camelot-like setting, dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, is home to the most extensive medieval fortified city still standing, featuring 52 watchtowers, a portcullis, and an astounding array of defences that repelled numerous armies that attempted to storm it. We travel to Puichéric lock this afternoon by leisurely circling the 330-year-old canal's contours through quaint villages and historic vineyards.

Our cruise this morning descends the Canal du Midi's iconic locks, which are deeper and more numerous due to the steep relief. Enchanté is cruising through the triple locking system, making this a great time to walk or ride between locks. The afternoon's activities include a visit to the fortified village of Minerve, listed among the most beautiful villages in France.  The dramatic history of this village includes the Cathar religious rebellions against the Catholic Church.

This morning we enjoy a private wine tasting in the stunning Chateau de Paraza, set in  70 acres of vineyards bording the canal, the estate has been privately owned since the 17th century.  Wine tasting will be followed by a private lunch in the chateau's salon.  This afternoon, as we cruise beneath the shadow of the plane trees that border the canal, we pass "l'Epanchoir," one of Pierre Paul Riquet's many engineering marvels for the Canal du Midi.

Roubia to Le Somail

Thursday

We are going on an excursion this morning to Narbonne, the capital of the Roman Mediterranean, once home to the Visogoth kings.
We take you on a tour of the Archbishop's Palace, Cathedral, and Via Domitia. We also stop by the indoor market located in the centre of this busy town, where you can shop or just take in the lively atmosphere.
After lunch, we continue our cruise alongside vineyards and pine trees along the 'Grand Bief', a 30-mile stretch of the Canal without any locks, arriving in Le Somail.

Le Somail to Salleles d'Aude

Friday

This morning’s excursion is to Fontfroide Abbaye, which started as a Benedictine Abbaye in 1093. The order joined the Cistercian order in 1144 and became one of Europe's wealthiest abbayes. Monks lived in this beautiful Abbaye for 900 years. In 1908, it was sold to Gustave Fayette and his wife Madeleine, who restored it and used it as an artistic centre, creating a beautiful mix of heritage and art.
After lunch on board, our afternoon cruise takes us along the Canal de la Robine, linking Narbonne to the Mediterranean Sea.
You may like to cycle ahead and explore the village of Sallèles d’Aude, our final mooring. 
This evening, there is time to chat and reflect on the week aboard during the Farewell dinner.
