About the barge "La Vie en Rose"

La Vie en Rose barge cruises

La Vie en Rose is the perfect home from home for a relaxed gite-style holiday.
Spacious and welcoming, she can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 well-appointed cabins.  Each day begins with a delicious breakfast, on the house... after that, the day is yours to do as you please.

With two outside seating areas, you'll be spoilt for choice when you wish to relax... Either the front deck with table and chairs for dining and loungers for snoozing after a wonderful lunch, or the wheelhouse deck offering a unique view by the helm and with a permament sunshade.

Stepping inside, you'll find a welcoming sitting room. Benefitting from 8 windows, the light here is perfect to either watch the world go by, or enjoy time with the book that you've been meaning to read.
In the evening after dinner, you can enjoy a nightcap here, curled up in the comfy seating.  The subtle greys of the soft furnishings and references to Strerling Hayden, who lived aboard while the board was moored in Paris,  Josephine Baker,  the American born french entertainer, activist and resistance agent,  and Edith Piaf, after who's beautiful song the barge is now named, all add to the wonderful ambiance.

A few steps from the sitting room take you down into the dining area which overlooks the professional galley.  Here you are free to prepare lunch and dinner should you wish.  Again, the room is bathed in light.   Set the mood using the inhouse music system, enjoy a glass of wine and relax with your friends.

During your cruise, there will be time to explore the local villages and small towns along the way, by bicycle or foot.  Alternatively, for trips further a field, our 7-seater chauffeured minibus is available.

After a day cruising, exploring and dining, it's time for bed.  The ensuite cabins invite you to a good night's sleep: crisp white linens, air-conditioning/heating units and opening windows guarantee a comfortable night, whatever time of year you choose to cruise.
Each cabin has a wardobe complete with hanging space and shelving, while in the ensuite you will find a range of toiletries, soft towels, a hair dryer and slippers.

Step aboard La Vie en Rose this season: Alex and his crew are looking forward to sharing their love of the area, food and wine with you.

Be prepared to relax and fall in love!

Il me parle tout bas
Je vois la vie en rose"

Santenay to Chagny
Wednesday
The day begins with a short cruise to Chagny, a small market town.
Optional excursion:
Visit Beaune with the colourful market and the 15th century Hospice de Beaune.  In addition to the beautiful tiled roof, you will see the old hospital wards with 'tiny' beds by our modern standards, the relatively humble chapel, a pharmacy complete with medicines and the kitchens too, all of which are a testament to the hard lives lived within the walls of this charitable hospital.

Chagny to Fragnes
Thursday
After our morning cruise to Fragnes, which is ideally situated for the discovery of the Cote Chalonnaise, we continue the wine and culinary discovery.   To the south of the Cote de Beaune, the Cote Chalonnaise produces ruby-coloured red wine and delicate white wine too, from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligote grapes.
Optional excursions:
The Chateau de Rully; a privately owned medieval fortress set in the vineyards
Bouzeran village, with wine tasting if you wish
Taste the best 'jambon persilléé of Burgundy at Chatenoy le Royal.  The famous caterer Morey has won many awards over the years for this regional delicacy.
To round off this fabulous day, the Captain recommends you enjoy a gastronomic dinner at Lameloise, the only 3* rated restaurant in Burgundy. (not included in the cruise price)

Fragnes - Seurre
Friday
You may choose to begin the day with an optional excursion to nearby Chalon-sur-Saone, a fine market town dating from Roman times.  Birthplace of photography,  Chalon is a lively town and today it's market day, with a variety of stalls selling local produce as well as a huge range of goods.  Take time to watch how the french do their shopping, admire the colours, the scents, the sing-song of the french language around you, to see french life at it's best.
In the afternoon,  we leave the quiet Canal behind us to join the majestic River Saone for our final cruise to Seurre, a small town.
