After a filling continental breakfast, this morning we sail upstream through several locks, to our first destination, Dampierre-et-Flée. As we cruise, there are plenty of opportunities to walk or cycle as the barge glides gracefully through a pastoral landscape.
Following lunch on board, join Jason on a drive to Isômes where we meet Cecil, who will introduce you to her business of artisanal jams, juices and liquors. This tenacious, hardworking lady has spearheaded a food revival in the area and you cannot help but be amazed at her energy and enthusiasm for life and her work.
We return to Saroche to freshen up for pre-dinner drinks before Jason drives you to the nearby town of Beze to dine at the Auberge du Beze, a cosy traditional French restaurant.
Today is Market day in Dijon so we'll take a ride to enjoy the hustle and bustle of one of France's finest markets, housed in a building designed by Gustave Eiffel. Jason will explain the history of this beautiful city before leaving you time to explore and enjoy lunch: There are many restaurants to choose from and Jason will make suggestions and arrange to meet you back at the van to return to Saroche.
Once back aboard, we will set sail upstream towards Saint Seine sur Vingeanne, our mooring for this evening. Dinner aboard.
Leaving Saroche early, we will spend the day in Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Jason will conduct a history tour of the Hospice de Beaune, an ancient hospital for the poor, dating back to 1443.
With a myriad of wonderful restaurants on tap, you can enjoy French cuisine at it's finest here.
After lunch, Jason will take you wine tasting to Patriarche Père et Fils, the largest wine producer in Burgundy. We join the cellar master for a standard tasting, and then have an opportunity to taste in a private room some of their rarer wines on offer.
We re-join Saroche for a light dinner and time to relax.
Today is all about the cruise! We continue our journey upstream this morning, passing farms and villages with the cycle route following us all the way. We'll moor up for lunch and then continue cruising into the afternoon to our destination of Cussey, where there will be plenty of time to explore this village.
This evening, Jaso, takes you the short distance to a local auberge for dinner. Return to Saroche for a nightcap.
This morning we will visit the citadel town of Langres for a guided tour of this wonderful, historic town dating from pre-Roman times. Jason will guide you through the city and explain how this ancient town has stayed so well preserved. With time to explore, you can then enjoy lunch before Jason takes you back to Saroche for our afternoon cruise. We ''climb' up through the locks to our final destination, Dommarien, where we turn Saroche round before mooring on the edge of this peaceful village. There will be time to freshen up before tonight's gala dinner on board.
After breakfast, at 9.30am it's time to leave the barge. Jason will take you back to Dijon TGV station for your onward journey, with time to reflect on a memorable week aboard Saroche.
