Renève to Dommarien, 6-night Christmas cruise
Captain Jason meets you in Dijon at 4pm for the transfer to Saroche, moored in the peaceful village of Renève. Settle in and enjoy a Kir Royal reception speech before your first sumptuous dinner aboard prepared by chef Dawn.
This morning, we begin to cruise heading upstream to our destination of Dampierre-et-Flée, passing through several locks on the way. There are plenty of opportunities to walk or cycle as Saroche glides through this pastoral, peaceful landscape.
After lunch on board, Jason drives you to Isômes to meet Cecil, who will introduce you to her business of artisanal jam, juices and liquors. This tenacious and hard-working lady has spearheaded a food revival in the area and never failed to impress with her energy and enthusiasm for life and her work.
We return to Saroche in time to freshen up for a pre-dinner drink before Jason drives you to the nearby town of Beze to dine at the Auberge du Bese, a warm and cosy, traditional French restaurant.
Today is market day! Jason will take you to Dijon with all the hustle and bustle of one of France's finest markets, housed in a beautiful building designed by Gustave Eiffel. There is plenty of time to explore the market and historic quarters of this beautiful city. Choose from one of the many restaurants to enjoy a traditional lunch. Rest assured, Jason will be happy to make suggestions in accordance with your tastes and budget.
After returning to Saroche, we set sail to head upstream towards Saint Seine sur Vingeanne, for our evening mooring. Dinner will be served aboard this evening.
Leaving the barge early this morning, we head across country to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, for a day of discovery. Step back in time in the world-famous Hospice de Beaune, an ancient hospital dating back to 1443. Jason will be your guide through this incredible series of buildings including a ward, chapel, kitchen and chemist.
Lunch is guaranteed to be a fabulous affair with a range of wonderful restaurants serving French cuisine at its finest! Again, take Jason's advice...
After lunch, it's time for a wine tasting at the largest wine-producer in Burgundy Patriarche Père et Fils. Jason will introduce you to the cellar master and after their standard tasting, you will have an opportunity to taste some of their rarer wines on offer, in a private room.
Jason will drive you back to the barge for a light dinner.
Thursday, Christmas Eve
After a day ashore in Beaune, today is all about the cruising, passing farms and villages as we journey towards Cussey. The cycle route follows us all the way should you be tempted to take some exercise. After mooring up for lunch, we continue our journey in the afternoon, arriving in time to explore the village.
This evening, Jason will take you the short distance to a local auberge for dinner. We'll return to Saroche for mulled wine by the fire pit and accelerate the arrival of Christmas.
Friday, Christmas Day
There is plenty of time to relax on this magical morning. Enjoy a lazy brunch with mimosas or maybe a mulled wine by the fire pit, while exchanging Christmas gifts, before a sumptuous Christmas Dinner is served.
For those who wish to walk off the Christmas festivities, Jason will drive you to the citadel town of Langres for a guided tour of this wonderful, historic town dating from pre-Roman times. Jason will guide you through the city and explain how this ancient town has remained so well preserved.
We return to the barge in time for an aperitif around the fire pit where a light Christmas buffet will be served for those who have space!
After breakfast, Jason will take you to the Dijon TGV station for your onward journey with time to reflect on a memorable week aboard Saroche. Safe journey home and 'Au revoir'!
